As co-leaders of the Portland-based Rubbish Project, we help organize regular community trash clean-ups that mobilize volunteers to tackle litter in public spaces. With a substantial following, the initiative has become a local movement, uniting people to make a tangible difference in our environment.

The Rubbish Midcoast chapter is the first expansion of the Rubbish Project, operating in the Camden, Rockport, and Rockland area. This initiative is an experiment in replicating the success of the Portland model, proving that localized, community-driven clean-up efforts can inspire environmental stewardship across Maine.

As coalition members of Reuse Maine, we are dedicated to building a robust reuse infrastructure throughout the state. This includes campaigns like the "BYO Encouraged" sticker effort, which partners with local cafes to reduce single-use waste by promoting reusable alternatives. Together, we are creating a culture of sustainability that prioritizes reuse over waste.

PLASTIC

to

LEEWARD

Saltwater Classroom is proud to be the fiscal sponsor of Plastic to Leeward, an adventure led by Luc Milam and Xander Karris. Their journey focuses on sailing to document waste management failures while connecting with impacted communities through education and storytelling. This initiative highlights global plastic pollution challenges and the importance of systemic change to protect our oceans.
